Recruit #OlderNotOver Champions

Older people with profile, power and personality can go a long way to changing how the world thinks about ageing.

We at HelpAge International are busy finding global #OlderNotOver champions and we would love network members to find their own country champions too. Together, we can create a bank of people who we can call on to help us spread the word, speak out and even change policy.

Do you have an influential politician, media or sports personality in your country – or someone who is active in your community who you think would make a great champion of older people?

Why not use #OlderNotOver as an opportunity to approach them and ask them to be your cheer leader?

Here’s what you could ask them to do.

Ask your Champion for a quote and a photo to use on your website/social media.

We will celebrate the Champion’s support online and across our channels too. Suggested quotes could be:

  1. I totally champion a campaign that shows older age in all its glory.
  2. So proud to support HelpAge International as it aims to revolutionise how older people are seen and treated.
  3. Happy to support #OlderNotOver and we’re not done yet.

How to approach a Champion

Now you have an idea of what you could ask your Champion to do, why not approach them on social media or over email?

You can amend the letter below to suit you.

“The longer we live, the more different from each other we become. HelpAge’s #OlderNotOver campaign shows this is so, and I’m delighted to be part of it.” — Ashton Applewhite, author, ageism activist and one of the UN’s Healthy Ageing 50: fifty leaders transforming the world to be a better place in which to grow older.
