Older people are among the most vulnerable in disasters.

HelpAge International works to ensure that the needs, rights and contributions of older people are included in the plans and activities of humanitarian agencies in their responses to emergencies and disasters.

Halima Ahmed Hissein, 80, lives alone in Goker camp in West Darfur, Sudan. "When my village was attacked, I couldn't run and neighbours helped me to the fields. I have two sons. One escaped to Chad with his family and one left to find work. I don’t have money to buy food." In West Darfur, HelpAge International has set up older people's committees in six camps for internally displaced people, to help older people like Halima. Click on the photo above to read more.
