Gender‑inclusive research of the needs of older people living in Eastern Ukraine (Ukrainian)

Published

This gender‑inclusive analysis examines how the full‑scale war in Ukraine has affected older women and men living in frontline and conflict‑affected areas of Eastern Ukraine.

Conducted by the Center for Social Audit for HelpAge International, the research explores how age intersects with gender, displacement, disability and social isolation to shape older people’s access to healthcare, humanitarian assistance, protection and community support.

Drawing on surveys, interviews and focus group discussions with older people, humanitarian staff and partners, the study highlights both visible and hidden vulnerabilities, including loneliness, caregiving burdens, chronic illness and barriers to accessing services.

The findings underline the importance of gender‑responsive, age‑ and disability‑inclusive humanitarian approaches, and provide practical recommendations to strengthen more personalised, dignified and effective support for older people in conflict settings.
