Carole Osero-Ageng’o announced as Co-Chair for 2024 United Nations Civil Society Conference

Carole Osero-Ageng’o, Global Initiatives Lead and Africa Regional Representative for HelpAge International, has been announced as co-chair of Nairobi’s 2024 United Nations Civil Society Conference in Support of the Summit of the Future.  

Carole will work alongside her co-chair, Nudhara Yusuf, Executive Coordinator for the Global Governance Innovation Network at The Stimson Center in London, UK. Together they will steer this UN Conference to help civil society prepare for their engagement in September’s UN Summit of the Future.  

Carole emphasised the critical role of civil society in the Summit of the Future, stating:

Greater collaboration between civil society organisations, governments, and the private sector is urgent as we prepare for the Summit of the Future. I look forward to partnering with Ms.Yusuf in delivering a successful UN Civil Society Conference to anchor civil society participation in the Summit’s processes.

The conference, scheduled for 9-10 May, 2024, at the United Nations Office in Nairobi, Kenya, marks a significant opportunity for civil society to engage in discussions leading to the Summit of the Future. It aims to facilitate multi-stakeholder engagement and generate tangible outcomes to inform the Summit of the Future. With support from key partners including the European Union, the Government of Denmark, and the Ford Foundation, the conference will foster collaboration and dialogue on global challenges. 

As co-chairs, Carole and Ms.Yusuf bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise in human rights, governance, and multilateral cooperation. 

Carole is a distinguished human rights lawyer and gender expert, known for her impactful advocacy at national, regional, and global levels. With extensive experience in ageing, women’s rights, governance, and climate change, she is instrumental in advancing HelpAge International’s priorities in Africa. Carole’s appointment underscores her commitment to amplifying the voices of older individuals and fostering inclusive humanitarian action.
