On World Health Day, 7 April, HelpAge is coordinating Age Demands Action campaigns in at least 26 countries – all calling for better health services for older people, including better provision for dealing with hypertension.

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) says unacounted deaths of people in Syria with diabetes, heart conditions and other chronic illnesses mean the true death toll of the war is far higher than the reported 70,000.

The UN High-level Panel on the post-2015 development agenda is meeting this week on the Indonesian island of Bali. This is the fourth meeting of the panel, which later this year will deliver a key report with recommendations for a future development framework to succeed the Millennium Development Goals after 2015. The main focus for the meeting in Bali is the role of global partnerships for development.
