Climate Elders exhibition opens during COP30 in Brazil

A new photography exhibition, Climate Elders, opens at Galeria Fidanza, Museum of Sacred Art (Museu de Arte Sacra do Pará) in Belém, Brazil, during the COP30 United Nations Climate Change Conference.

The exhibition, created by 1in6by2030 in partnership with HelpAge, brings together the work of photographers from 21 countries to tell the stories of older people whose lives are being reshaped by the climate crisis. Each portrait is accompanied by a personal message to world leaders – a call for inclusion, dignity and urgency in global climate policy.

HelpAge global network members played a vital role in connecting photographers with older people on the frontlines of climate change. Through their community networks, organisations including COSE (Philippines), FOPDEV (Thailand), GRAVIS (India), HelpAge Ethiopia, HelpAge España, National Age Network of Zimbabwe, Resource Center for Elderly (Kyrgyzstan) and Resource Integration Centre (Bangladesh) helped bring many of the stories featured in the exhibition to life.

The exhibition runs from 7 November to 31 December 2025. Following its run, the exhibition will be donated to the museum.

The exhibition is supported by the VII Foundation, HelpAge International, Thomas M. Neff, and the Secretaria de Cultura do Governo do Pará (Secult).

About 1in6by2030

1in6by2030 is a global collaborative initiative that brings together photographers from around the world to put a human face on one of the most important “statistics” of our time – the fact that by the year 2030, 1 in 6 people in the world will be over the age of 60.

1in6by2030 was created by VII Photographers Ed Kashi, Ilvy Njiokiktjien, and Sara Terry. This project is dedicated to the memory of Sara Terry (1955-2025).
