This newsletter describes the impact and achievements of our work in Ethiopia on emergencies, health, HIV and AIDS, secure incomes and older people’s movement.

This special issue of Ageways is packed with practical advice on fundraising for work with older people. It has been produced in association with the Resource Alliance, which has more than thirty years’ experience of helping to strengthen the fundraising capacity of non-profits around the world.

Population ageing is leading to a steep rise in the number of people with dementia. Ageways 78, produced with Alzheimer’s Disease International, discusses policy implications and practical responses.

This project newsletter looks at our project in rural Myanmar which helps communities establish Village Development Committees. These committees empower communities for social and economic development and establish a community-level social protection mechanism in marginalised areas.

Disasters & Livelihoods reports on a project coordinated by HelpAge International in the Caribbean to help farmers make their livelihoods more resistant to disasters.

Our annual review 2012 poster highlights how, due to our global grass-roots campaign Age Demands Action, ten million older people have the potential to benefit from improved or new policies introduced in the last five years.

HIV is increasingly affecting older people in two key ways – they are living with HIV and providing care and support to orphaned children and family members living with HIV. This issue of Ageways highlights that older people hugely contribute to the response to HIV, and must not be neglected in HIV data, policy and programming. It profiles some of the action taken to recognise older people’s needs and contributions, raise awareness and address the discrimination and rights violations they face.
