HelpAge International was saddened to hear of the death of James Blackburn, a former member of staff.

James was the Regional Director for Latin America from 2004 until 2012 and Country Director for Colombia from 2012 to 2015.

He was a specialist in participatory methodologies with a PhD in Development Studies from the University of Sussex on citizen participation. He helped develop HelpAge’s work across the region and drove our programmes in Colombia building support for older people.

Justin Derbyshire, Chief Executive Officer at HelpAge, said: “I am sad to hear the news. James contributed an incredible amount to HelpAge over a number of years. Our thoughts are with James’ family and friends.”
