Under an existing global partnership between HelpAge International and Handicap International, both organisations are collaborating in the response to the Syria crisis in, at present in Jordan and Lebanon. Handicap International is an independent and impartial international aid organisation working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster. Working alongside persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, its action and testimony are focused on responding to their essential needs, improving their living conditions and promoting respect for their dignity and their fundamental rights.

This is an exciting secondment opportunity to develop and implement the protection and advocacy strategy, as well as capacity building activities for the inclusion of vulnerable groups, in particular older people and people with disabilities, in the humanitarian response in Jordan. In order to optimize the success of advocacy activities, the Protection Coordinator will work closely with Syrian refugees and host communities who receive assistance from HI humanitarian response. Key activities will include the involvement of Syrian refugees at community and camp level in the design and implementation of protection mechanisms, as well as advocacy and trainings with humanitarian partners, with a special focus on people with disabilities and older people.

The post holder will be able to contribute to and deliver: high quality research and monitoring of the needs of older people and people with disability as well as current gaps in the response; develop evidence-based messages and policy papers; design and implement training and capacity-building tools for a range of humanitarian and national actors, at operational and senior level; and monitor and analyze progress against identified indicators of success.

  The ideal candidate will have Master's Degree in International Humanitarian Programme or related field as well as extensive experience developing and managing protection programmes, including community mobilization activities, at field level in humanitarian contexts. You will also have a proven record of dedicated humanitarian policy and advocacy experience at international level and strong experience of capacity building, with a proven experience of trainings to various ranges of actors, including international organisations.
