Affiliates in Europe

HelpAge Network Affiliates in the European Union are based in the following countries:


Czech Republic:

Zivot 90

Established in 1990, ZIVOT 90 is a civil society organisation working with and for older people in the Czech Republic. Their main goal is to create change and improve older people's quality of life.

Zivot 90 raises awareness of older people's issues in the Czech Republic by disseminating relevant information and knowledge. They work closely with government ministries and organise conferences on ageing issues. They have also participated in a working group to address the social exclusion of older people.

Zivot 90 was involved in the formulation of the Czech National Programme on the Preparation for Ageing. This document covers older people's needs and is supported by all ministries of the Czech government.

Zivot 90 became a member of the HelpAge network in 1990 and an Affiliate in 1992. They have been involved in the Age Demands Action and Linking Lives campaigns and the MIPAA +10 Review.

Denmark:

DaneAge Association

Established in 1986, DaneAge Association is a not-for-profit, membership organisation. Their mission is to fight for a society in which the person is more important than the person's age.

DaneAge advocates for a society without age barriers and ageism, adequate pensions for retired people and a healthcare system without age discrimination. They also provide support and counselling to help older people make informed decisions concerning finances and housing arrangements. 

In 2007, DaneAge collaborated with Care Denmark on a project to support vulnerable older people in Vietnam.  From 2008, DaneAge has collaborated with Dane Church Aid to establish self helps groups with older people in Kyrgyzstan.

DaneAge also collaborated with the Danish Refugee Council to help older migrants and refugees in Denmark, focusing on removing language barriers and overcoming loneliness and financial problems.

Germany:

HelpAge Deutschland                           

Established in 2005, HelpAge Deutschland (HAD) raises awareness about ageing and development in Germany. Another of their goals is promoting the social, economic and cultural rights of older people in the developing world.

HAD is the only German NGO which focuses on ageing and development. They work closely with the German Government and civil society organisations.

Since 2005, HAD has been a HelpAge Affiliate and has worked with a range of other Affiliates. They have worked on HIV and AIDS prevention with MUSA in South Africa and trained older people in disaster prevention with RIC in Bangladesh among other projects. 

HAD also informs the Federal Government and the European Union on issues of ageing and development and raises awareness in Germany of older people in developing countries.

In 2009 HelpAge Deutschland became a HelpAge Sister and now shares the same visions, mission and brand.

Ireland:

Age Action Ireland

Age Action Ireland Age Action is Ireland's leading charity working to improve the quality of life of all older people and their carers.

The aim is to achieve fundamental changes in the lives of all older people by empowering them to live full lives as actively engaged citizens. Age Action Ireland is a charity which promotes positive ageing, better policies and services for older people. 

To provide the best quality of life for older people in Ireland, the organisation supports older people to secure their rights, represent their interests and obtain the services they need.

Age Action became a HelpAge Affiliate in 2004. In 2009 it appointed a global educator to promote awareness of ageing in developing countries within Ireland, and works closely with HelpAge and Irish Aid on the development of this programme.

Age Action Ireland participates in the annual campaign Age Demands Action.

Netherlands:

Cordaid

Established in 1999, Cordaid encourages older people to participate in society. Cordaid works with more than a 1,000 partner organisations worldwide to ensure older people can lead dignified lives. They also collaborate with their partners to advocate for older people's rights around the world.

Since 2004, Cordaid has supported ten of their partners and the communities they work with to build locally-managed disaster risk reduction programmes. Cordaid also works to strengthen older people's resilience, peace building skills and their participation in long-term development.

Cordaid and HelpAge International have worked together on a number of projects including providing access to basic facilities for older people living in slums.

In 1999, Cordaid became a member of the HelpAge network and an Affiliate in 2004. Cordaid also takes part in the Age Demands Action campaign to raise awareness of the rights of older people.

World GrannyWorld Granny

Established in 2004, World Granny is a non-profit organisation that empowers older people, eliminates extreme poverty in developing countries and raises awareness of older people's issues.

World Granny works with a number of local organisations in the developing world. Their international partners are mostly other Affiliates and partners of the HelpAge network.

HelpAge International and World Granny have worked together on a number of projects including areas such as social pensions, fundraising and health.

Other World Granny international projects include providing shelter for the homeless in Ethiopia, promoting healthy and productive lifestyles in Peru, securing access to health insurance in Bolivia and supporting older people to claim their rights in Laos.

World Granny also works closely with other Dutch organisations, such as Cordaid and Wild Geese.

Slovenia:

Slovene Philanthropy

Slovene Philanthropy is a non-profit and non-political organisation, established in 1992 to develop and promote humanitarian activities in Slovenia.

They support a voluntary network for humanitarian assistance in Slovenia and encourages voluntary work to assist vulnerable groups.

Slovene Philanthropy's main strands of work are carried out through three centres: the Centre for Promotion of Voluntary Work, the Centre for Psychosocial Assistance to Refugees and the Centre for Promotion of Health.

Slovene Philanthropy collaborates with the Slovene Association of Pensioners on projects such as the "Elderly for the Elderly", which aims to improve the quality of life for older people in their homes.
In 1993, Slovene Philanthropy became a partner of the HelpAge Network and they became an Affiliate in 1996. They have also participated in several Age Demands Action campaigns.

Spain

HelpAge International EspañaHelpAge International Espana logo

HelpAge International España was established in 2009. The three main aims of HelpAge International España are to raise funds from the Spanish public for HelpAge's work, raise funding for HelpAge's programmes from institutional donors and raise awareness among the public and the private sector on issues of global aging

HelpAge International España has built up a donor base of regular givers and has worked closely with AECID, the Spanish government's aid department to mobilised valuable funding for humanitarian work in Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Occupied Palestinian Territories and Colombia.

HelpAge International España joined the ADA global campaign in 2011 and works with UDP, the biggest older people's association in Spain with over 1.5 million members, to put older people's rights on the agenda. They became a HelpAge Affiliate in 2012.

United Kingdom

Age UK/Age International

Age UK is a NGO formed by the 2009 merge of Age Concern and Help the Aged. It works at a national, regional and international level to improve the lives of older people.

Age UK works to deliver services to enhance the lives of older people and influence others to improve older people's lives. They have set up local gateways to the information, advice, products and services that Age UK and its partners provide. Among other things these centres help and encourage local groups and organisations to build and sustain local communities in which older people can flourish.

Age UK influences policy at the UK and EU level as well as globally. They are an active member of the consortium that is pressing for a UN Convention on the Rights of Older People.

Age UK (as Help the Aged) was a founder of HelpAge International in 1983.

In 2012 HelpAge International and Age UK created a new entity called Age International to raise awareness of ageing and development in the United Kingdom.

Centre for Policy on AgeingCPA logo

Established in 1947, the Centre for Policy on Ageing (CPA) was set up by the Nuffield Foundation to focus on the needs of older people.

Today, CPA's work is primarily directed towards informing and influencing service providers. They aim to discover and advocate what older people themselves want and need.

CPA is an independent centre of research and reference that aims to formulate and encourage policies that enable a full life in older age. They also promote debate about ageing, raise awareness of older people's needs and spread good practice. 

The Centre's objectives are realised through the Policy and Research Department, the Library and Information Service and CPA Publishing.

CPA's work covers a range of issues including health and social services, residential and community care, religious belief, living arrangements, transport, citizenship and leisure activities.

CPA joined the HelpAge network in 1989 and became an Affiliate in 2004.
