30th anniversary of HIV and AIDS: Reflections on the epidemic
The first case of AIDS was diagnosed 30 years ago, on 5 June, 1981.
In the lead-up to the UN High Level Meeting on HIV on 8 June, we spoke with older carers and health workers in Africa about their memories of the early days of HIV and AIDS.
The photogallery contains their reflections.

Lets support older persons more than ever cos they are suppresed, abused, victimised and abandoned because people thing that they are witches and are killing those who die of aids instead of supporting them and appreciating how they support in the fight of HIV/AIDS.

The burden of HIV/AIDS now rests on older persons cos they are carrying for ovcs, those who are sick, counseling the affected and finally getting infected themselves due to lack of valuable information on prevention and proper mitigation strategises.

this is an eye opener for all. senior citizens/elderly, have long been forgotten and have abused all manner. injustice, violanation in all their rights, subjected to all forms of human degradation , even death - they have ceased to be considered human in the sense. Protection that traditionally was provided by the very family they riased has long been replaced by selfishness and indivualist. consider the following areas - which on eof them considers the elderly? - infrasture , housing, transport, hospitals, wars....it is a time that we give back to these strong people who made us to be. Respect them, ensure their rights are protected be our brother's keeper. God bless all the elderly people around the world. special thought to my mother and father both of who are over 70 years and going strong.
