General HelpAge spokespeople
Silvia Stefanoni, Interim Chief Executive Officer
Silvia joined HelpAge as Director of Programmes in January 2005. Before that, she held a number of senior positions in Save the Children UK, including Regional Director, Asia, and Director of International Operations.
Silvia is an anthropologist and has conducted research into cross-cultural communication and migration in Latin America, Australia and Southern Europe.
Global Ageing
Mark Gorman, Director of Strategic Development
Mark has a number of articles and broadcasts to his name, and has spoken at international conferences about ageing in low- and middle-income countries. He has travelled extensively for HelpAge International in South and East Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Mark is a member of the advisory group for the UK's New Dynamics of Ageing research programme and the EasyCare health assessment project. He received an MBE in the 2008 New Year's honours list.
Eduardo Klien, Regional Representative, East Asia and Pacific
Eduardo has extensive experience of working in social and economic development with governments and international organisations.
He is an economist by profession and has been a lecturer in Economics in the Universities of Mexico and Nicaragua. Eduardo is currently a Visiting Fellow at the Oxford Institute of Ageing of the University of Oxford.
Humanitarian and Emergencies
Frances Stevenson, Head of Emergencies
Frances has almost 20 years experience managing humanitarian programmes with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) and other international NGOs.
She coordinated the Humanitarian Practice Network at the Overseas Development Institute (ODI) for four years, and has worked as an independent consultant on humanitarian policy and practice.
Rights
Bridget Sleap, Senior Rights Policy Adviser
Bridget has a Masters in Human Rights and leads HelpAge's engagement on older women and men's rights with the UN human rights system. She has advised the Committee on Elimination of Discrimination Against Women and the Advisory Committee to the Human Rights Council.
Bridget regularly presents and has participated in expert meetings organised by United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the Academy of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law.
She has also written articles for HelpAge and other organisations including Oxfam, and the International Development Law Organisation.
HIV and AIDS
Rachel Albone, HIV and AIDS Policy Adviser
Rachel has worked with the UK Department for International Development (DFID), monitoring HIV and AIDS programmes in Africa. She has also worked in Ethiopia with UNAIDS, the Netherlands Embassy, GOAL and Family Health International. She has a Masters in Human Geography.
