The Global AgeWatch Index was developed to measure and monitor key aspects of the social and economic wellbeing of older people globally. It has succeeded in building awareness among governments and international agencies of the needs of older populations and the role of data in planning to meet those needs.
In the context of emerging opportunities to work on data collection and integration with Agenda 2030 and the new Sustainable Development Goals, we have decided to take a break to develop the next iteration of the Index to be released in 2018.
We also wish to include additional countries in the Index and there is a clear need to develop recommendations on how missing national data can make its way into international datasets and the Index.
This work will enable us to develop improved measures of the wellbeing of older men and women for more countries.
