Europe: Lead the way
The European Union (EU) is the world's largest donor of aid to developing countries. But older people are almost invisible in its aid strategy.
Watch our film to find out more, or read on below.
What's the problem?
Older people’s rights are not included as a cross-cutting theme in key EU development policies. This means that they are often forgotten when aid programming takes place.
Older people do not get age-friendly aid.
Why should I care?
Because real people aren't getting enough support and they are struggling.
People such as Josephine from Kenya who is trying to look after five abandoned children with no pension. Or Rhoda who has to work all hours to live in a shack with no proper walls.
What can I do about it?
Help make Europe lead the way.
The EU – the world’s largest donor – has the ideal opportunity to address this gap.
Currently they are planning for the 2014-20 EU financial framework and positioning the EU for the post-2015 global development framework.
You can:
- Sign the petition to ask the EU to put older people them at the top of their agenda!
- Find out which politicians are supporting the campaign.
- Download our call for action for the European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations (EY2012).
