This study provides recommendations and emphasizes what communities can do to improve the access and delivery of primary healthcare (PHC) services, including good practices in the region. Older people represent a valuable asset in society, and by improving the affordability/quality of PHC services, societies can contribute to active and healthy ageing of both the current future generations.

HIV and AIDS can prove devastating in undermining traditional support structures that sustain many families in Asia, reversing the expectation that parents will be looked after by their adult children as they become older. In reality, as this research report shows, older people, primarily women, are confronted with the task of caring for a sick adult child, coping with their eventual death, and possibly looking after a surviving grandchild.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the older people’s associations (OPA) model
developed during HelpAge International’s implementation of a three-year project on
poverty alleviation in Western China. The project OPA model aims to create more dynamic and active OPAs. The model was borrowed in part from HAI’s project work with OPAs in Cambodia and Vietnam.

This report draws on field research to highlight the situation of older people who have been displaced in West Darfur as a result of the conflict which began in 2003. This study conducted by the Cooperation Committee of Cambodia (CCC) tries to document the experiences and situations of older people from two communities in the Pailin municipality of Cambodia. It examines their background and migration history, livelihood strategies, living arrangements, support networks and health. The methodology includes a suvery questionnaire, interviews with local authorities and older people, and focus group discussions.

This report describes the methodology from a project carried out in four Bolivian municipalities. The project aimed to develop a habit of cooperation between the municipal governments and older people to improve their long-term living conditions and health.
