The government made a commitment to:
This year the Senior Citizens Association of Zambia (SCAZ) will organise a delegation of older people to meet with the Vice-President and the Minister of Community Development.
The delegation will call for a commitment from the government to:
Mrs B Sikanyika, 72, runs an NGO working with orphans, vulnerable children and older caregivers.
Mrs M Mwansa, 57, is Executive Director of an NGO looking after orphans and vulnerable children and older caregivers. She also runs home-based care services.
Mr S Munakombwe, 72, takes care of four grandchildren. He is a member of the senior citizens' association.
Mr R C Mwale, 60, a practising lawyer and a grandparent. He is passionate about older people's rights.
• 5% of the population is over 60. By 2050 this figure is projected to reach 6%.
• 65% of men and 35% of women over the age of 60 are economically active.
