Highlights from 2007

Following last years meeting in Slovenia the government has taken some positive steps to improve the lives of older people.

The Council for intergenerational collaboration was established which is lead by a representative of the Slovene Federation of Pensioners' Associations, and includes representatives from each of the government departments as well as civil society members.

What's planned for 2008?

The Age Demands Action delegation are planning to meet with the President of the Republic, the President of the National Assembly, the Minister of Labour, Family and Social Affairs and the Minister of Health. Together, they will hold an open discussion on ageing issues in Slovenia.

Before the general elections take place, a leaflet detailing the policy asks will be sent to candidates in preparation for future meetings.

After the elections, the delegation will meet with new government ministers including the heads of each depatment and the President to present their policy asks.

The delegation will ask the government to commit to:

  • ensure that older people will have access to affordable healthcare after privatisation of the healthcare system
  • ensure that older people have access to affordable housing
  • ensure that older people are included in both local and national decision-making processes.
