What happened in 2008?

HelpAge International in Latin America is working with the National Association of Older People in Peru. Together, they gathered a delegation of older people to address key government officials on 1 October.

During a roundtable discussion with the "Defensor del Pueblo" (Parliamentary Ombudsman) the delegation witnessed the enthusiam with which the Ombudsman promised to take up their cause with parliament.

They then presented a written proposal to President Alan Garcia, before taking part in a formal lunch with 1,200 older people which was organised by the local government in Lima.

The delegation is looking forward to monitoring the progress of their proposals.
