Older people care for those who are ill with HIV/AIDS and their orphaned children, and are at risk of infection themselves.

As the epidemic has progressed, HelpAge International and its partner organisations have launched a response through programmes that combine prevention, care and support to meet the needs of older people.

Each photo here illustrates how HIV/AIDS affects older people. To read the story behind the photo, click on the relevant image.

Chheut, 68, from Battambang province, Cambodia, has been looking after his five grandchildren for the last four years. “I do my best to look after the children. I can’t go anywhere. I'm tired. But the children are my blood line and I can’t break the blood line." HelpAge International have given him vegetable seeds to plant on his land. Click on the photo above to read more.
