Sont Tajomson, who receives support through Sponsor a Grandparent, in his home in northern Thailand.
Sponsor a Grandparent raises funds from the UK public to provide essential support to more than 26,000 older people, through some 350 local organisations all over the world.
The programme is based on the following principles:
- It supports the poorest and most vulnerable older people.
- It focuses on community development rather than individual welfare.
- It encourages individual independence and project sustainability, where possible.
- It builds the capacity of local organisations.
The largest programmes are in India, Kenya, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
